WorldCat

Advanced Challenge

1.  First of all let me say I really enjoyed working with this site. It
was easy to navigate and I found that the more specific you were
the easier it was to find your information.
Started out using a basic search for this first question and put in
Luther, Martin and of course ended up getting a huge amount of
books on Martin Luther King, Jr. Went to the Advanced search and
put in Luther, Martin with the limiters Juvenile and Non-Fiction
but still came up with more on Martin King Jr. Then specified more
by putting in Luther, Martin monk. Bingo!! got 26 results. Chose
the books Luther: biography of a reformer from Augustana and
Martin Luther from the Brookings Public Library. I liked the Material Type feature in the record which gave somewhat of a grade level for the book. Also liked the Libraries tab at the top of
page which got you right to the list of libraries that had the book.
I ended up using the Advanced Search for the rest of the questions
and as I said found it very easy to use.

2.  Started by putting in a specific Shakespeare work, Romeo and
Juliet but decided this would take to long so put in Shakespeare's
Classics Graphic Novels and came up with 41 results. It pretty
much covered all of his plays. Chose Romeo & Juliet: a graphic
novel, Publisher Towester: Classical Comics

3.  Using the Advanced Search and putting in the Limiters Musical
Scores, Any Audience, Any Context, and Any Format I put in My
Fair Lady and got 491 results. Thought this was somewhat high so
narrowed it down by using My Fair Lady score and got 131 results.
Thought this was a little strange since I had checked the box which
just limited it to Musical Scores already. My choice had the Accession No. 998214 and was available at the University of Minnesota.
I do request materials from the Public Library for teachers and will definitly use this to see what is available outside of South Dakota.

Common Core:

I'm not sure how effective this would be for student use. Possibly could be a tool they would use further in college research.
Could introduce it briefly with that in mind. Would most likely use
it with teachers who are struggling with Common Core objectives.
It came up with 307 results with information on Common Core and
most of it looked very informative and worthwhile.

  1. You did a great job here, Cathy! We're glad you found WorldCat so easy to use. For #1, you could also have used the limiter NOT, and said NOT King, to eliminate Martin Luther King results. There are many ways to get good results! I agree that this resource is more for librarians and teachers than students, but it is a way to find out what's out there. Thanks for your comments.
