World Book

WORLD BOOK KIDS
Filter option was nice. Put in whales and got 43 articles but on a variety including whales, dolphin, and sharks. Quite a mixture of articles. Could go to 6 pictures of 6 different whales. This was neat espcially for younger grades 1-3. 14 videos were available for viewing. A good listening exercise would be to have students watch and list 5 things they learned about whales.

WORLD BOOK STUDENT
Went to Biography Center and then clicked n view more catagories. The list of World Book Picks is an excellent way for students to choose a person for research. For example, if on World Leaders they can go to a complete list and then modify their search. The How to Do Research on the side was interesting. As a librarian I could see using this for a lesson on research and writing a paper espcially for 6-8 students.

WORLD BOOK ADVANCED
Looked up Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and was intrigued with the Hear text read aloud feature. I am periodically asked to get talking books for special needs students. This might be an option. Also like the link to the Content Standards.

WORLD BOOK DISCOVER
Visual Dictionary was just fin to navigate and would be interesting with Junior High grades. Timeline feature of course would be beneficial espcially creating their own. Video's again were excellent. Would be fun to use the Ask a Question feature. Citation Builder is important for older students. Liked that they appeared in 3 formats.

Common Core
11-12 WS 1

Using World Book Advanced students will research Act of Bravery by an American Politician after 1956.

3. Will use the Citation Builder to list sources.
4. Will explore magazine and newspaper articles listed on subject.
5. Will write an essay supporting why their subject was heroic.
