WRAP UP
1. Since I had taken the Challenge previously, obviously Mango and Chilton Library were new sites to explore. After using them for the assignment I decided they would probably get more use in a Public library. Even though it's good to be aware of them espcially for high school boys interested in cars. Could be used as a tool just to introduce students to research.
2. This was a great refreasher course and couldn't have come at a better time since the Juniors are just starting their research papers. The handouts will really come in handy. Proquest, Sirs and World Book are used heavily for these and I am always discovering new features with insights from my fellow attendees taking the Challenge.

AncestryLibrary, Heritage Quest & Sanborn Maps
1. Clicked on Immigration & Travel. Put in Titanic and found 3 other ships also with the White Star line. The Majestic, Olympic & Republic. All had pictures with brief histories of each ship.
2. Under Search clicked on Newspapers & Publications. This brought up Obituary listings from the Hindenburg.
3. Searched under Books. Came up with many on Brown County.
Common Core:
Writing Standards 6-12
Text Types and Purposes: Grades 11-12 #2 b
Develop the topic thoroughly by selecting the most significant and relevant facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations or other information and examples appropriate to the audience's knowledge of the topic.
Using either AncestryLibrary or Heritage Quest pick one ancestor at least 20 years back and research one specific event that took place in that period.
Sanborn Maps would be very valuable as a tool in studying South Dakota history.

Gale Virtual Reference Library
1. Clicked on Nation & World and came up with 131 articles most of them in Worldmark Encyclopedia of World Holidays. Examples were Ching Ming Festival in China held April 5 or 6. Serve cold food such as Rice and Noodles. Also have kite flying contests. Another one was Wielkanoc Easter celebrated in Poland. Mentioned Easter bread (Babka) and Lenten soup (Postna zupa) and even gave the recipes. Also found the Worldmark Encyclopedia of Foods and Recipes of the World which might be helpful. Like the Search Within Publication feature. Seems to me this is an additional source to World Book.
2. I did an Advanced Search and sorted by Publication date after 2011. Did a good job searching the index.

Perfect for the Juniors who do research papers. I usually do an overview of several research sites. Would give them each a recent topic and have them find 5 sources on Proquest and Cite them using the Cite feature. Excellent tool for becoming familiar with listing sources.
